Nepal's iGaming Market Plummets 74% After Social Media Block - iGN x Blask

According to data shared with iGN by analytics company Blask, Nepal’s iGaming market faced a severe downturn following the September 4 government ban on 26 platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. The Blask Index fell from 26.3K to 6.6K in just seven days, against the backdrop of mass protests. Key indicators include:

  • 74% — drop in the Blask Index for the week (September 2–9)
  • 72% — YoY market growth before the September events (from 4.24M to 7.29M)
  • 48 brands — active in the market before the protests

Although the government has lifted the social media ban, traffic has not recovered to previous levels. According to the Blask Index, which measures iGaming market activity through traffic and player behavior, the downturn marks a sudden break in the sector’s upward trajectory.
