Kazakhstan’s Finance Ministry: 700,000 Bet with Bookmakers

On January 26, Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Finance Yerzhan Birzhanov presented data on the country’s betting market based on the Finance Ministry’s tax administration system, reports Zakon.kz.

According to the ministry, around 700,000 Kazakhstanis regularly place bets with bookmakers.

This represents approximately 15–20% of the country’s adult population.

Financial Indicators of the Betting Market

Betting Volume and Payouts

Over a period of more than one year, the total volume of bets amounted to $3.18 billion (around 1.6 trillion tenge).

Total player winnings reached $2.38 billion, which corresponds to 75% of the total betting volume.

Bookmakers’ Revenue

Bookmakers’ GGR amounted to approximately $800 million, or 25% of the total betting volume.

Impact of Legislative Changes

Yerzhan Birzhanov noted that following changes to legislation, the volume of bets and the number of transactions declined.

Tax revenues from bookmakers’ activities also decreased.
