India blocks another 242 iGaming websites

In India, the government on January 16 reported the blocking of another 242 websites linked to illegal betting and gambling. No specific list of the blocked resources was published.
Blocking of illegal iGaming resources
According to sources, the total number of illegal betting and gambling websites blocked in the country has already exceeded 7.8 thousand.
The increase in blocking activity has been recorded since the adoption of the Online Gaming Act, which strengthened oversight measures and made it possible to speed up efforts to restrict access to prohibited platforms.
Reasons for stricter measures
User protection
Authorities stated that the actions are aimed at protecting users, including minors, from involvement in illegal gambling.
Financial and social risks
It was also emphasized that illegal platforms are associated with financial and social harm, including monetary losses and the growth of underground activity.
Context of online gambling regulation
The latest wave of blocks has become part of the Indian government’s systematic policy to limit the activities of illegal iGaming operators and enforce new regulatory requirements.
