Starting March 19, YouTube Will Ban Content with Links to “Unauthorized” iGaming Sites and Promises of Instant Wins
YouTube is introducing new restrictions on gambling-related content to enhance user protection, especially for minors. These changes will take effect on March 19.
Key Restrictions
1. Links and Mentions
- Prohibited to post links to gambling websites unless they are approved by Google.
- It is not allowed to display logos, insert links in text or images, or make verbal mentions of such platforms.
2. Content Promising Wins
Any videos promising a guaranteed win will be removed, even if the mentioned service is Google-approved.
3. Age Restrictions
- Videos related to online gambling will be available only to users over 18 years old.
- Such videos will not be visible to unregistered users.
Exceptions
These restrictions do not apply to two categories:
- Online sports betting.
- Content showcasing real-life gambling (IRL).
Reasons for the Changes
YouTube is tightening control over gambling content to reduce potential harm to users. The new rules are particularly aimed at protecting minors and ensuring a safer platform environment.
Despite the possible impact on content creators, YouTube considers these measures necessary to maintain a responsible community.
