Police Officers in Japan Investigated Over Online Casinos

In Japan, nine police officers have come under investigation for gambling in online casinos.
Cases Referred to Prosecutors
The Hyogo Prefectural Police referred the cases of nine police officers to prosecutors on suspicion of gambling in online casinos using smartphones.
Use of Overseas Websites
According to the investigation, the officers accessed overseas online casino websites and placed bets while staying within Japan.
Financial Losses and Debts
One of the suspects spent around $32,000 and placed more than 3,000 bets between December 2024 and June 2025.
Systematic Gambling
Another police officer, according to sources, gambled regularly and accumulated significant debts as a result.
Disciplinary Measures
All nine police officers were subjected to disciplinary action, including salary reductions and suspension from duty for up to six months.
Service at the Same Police Station
Six of the suspects were serving at the same police station.
