KSA Orders Polymarket to Cease Operations in the Netherlands

In the Netherlands, gambling regulator KSA ordered Polymarket (Adventure One QSS Inc.) to immediately cease operations in the country, classifying prediction market platforms as a form of illegal gambling.

KSA Regulator Decision

The regulator determined that Adventure One QSS Inc. was offering gambling services under the Polymarket brand in the Netherlands without the required license.

According to the regulator’s position, prediction markets fall under the definition of illegal gambling and are not permitted on the national market.

Lack of a License

KSA stated that Polymarket does not hold authorization to provide gambling services to local users.

Despite previous contact with the company, access to the platform for users in the Netherlands has remained available.

Penalties for Polymarket

If the company fails to cease its activities, it faces a weekly fine of €420,000.

The maximum penalty has been set at €840,000.

Additional Measures

The regulator is also considering imposing an additional fine calculated based on the company’s turnover.

Reasons for Regulatory Action

In recent months, Polymarket has repeatedly drawn attention due to bets related to elections in the Netherlands.

According to KSA, such offerings pose public risks and are classified as an illegal gambling offer.

KSA Position

The regulator emphasized that companies without a license are not permitted to operate on the Dutch gambling market, including new formats such as prediction platforms.
