ACMA’s Enforcement Measures

Website blocking is one of the tools used to protect Australian users from illegal gambling services. The ACMA regularly requests providers to restrict access to platforms that operate unlawfully.

Since 2019, a total of 1,369 websites linked to gambling and affiliate activity have been blocked. Additionally, around 220 illegal services have exited the Australian market following the enforcement of rules introduced in 2017.

Why the ACMA Warns Players

The regulator notes that even websites appearing legitimate may lack essential player protection measures. This increases risks for users, including:

  • no guarantee of fund safety
  • no player support tools
  • a high chance of losses without the ability to rely on licensed service registers

The ACMA encourages users to check whether a service is licensed to operate in Australia and to review guidance on protecting themselves from illegal operators.
