SOFTSWISS Releases Annual iGaming Trends 2025 Report (Part 1)

SOFTSWISS has published an updated regulatory overview in its latest “iGaming Trends 2025” report. The document analyzes key legislative developments across global iGaming markets during the first half of 2025.

• 🇺🇸 USA (New York): On June 6, 2025, the Attorney General ordered the shutdown of 26 sweepstakes casinos; Bill “SB 5935” was passed, banning social casino models.
• 🇨🇦 Canada (Ontario): New restrictions on using athletes and influencers in iGaming ads; centralized self-exclusion system launched via “IC360” and “IXUP.”
• 🇧🇷 Brazil: As of October 1, 2025, GGR tax increased from 12% to 18%. Licensed apps are now allowed in Google Play (effective June 18). Betting scope expanded to include esports.

• 🇮🇳 India: The Supreme Court has paused the collection of €11.5B in GST arrears until March 2025. A joint task force was formed in January to combat illegal offshore advertising.
• 🇯🇵 Japan: iGaming remains illegal. Authorities continue their crackdown on offshore operators.
• 🇳🇿 New Zealand: Up to 15 online casino licenses are expected to be issued by 2026. Operators like “888,” “Betway,” and “Bet365” have expressed interest.
