Google Introduced New Search Mode — AI Mode Now with Even More Capabilities
At the Google I/O conference, an update to Search was unveiled featuring AI integration based on the Gemini 2.5 model.
The new AI Mode allows users to ask complex questions and receive answers with deep analysis and detailed links.
What Is AI Mode and How It Differs
AI Mode is Google’s most advanced search experience powered by Gemini 2.5 technologies. Users can ask long and complex queries, and the search engine breaks them down into subtopics and processes hundreds of subqueries simultaneously. This approach provides more accurate and in-depth answers.
AI Mode is available in the U.S. and will soon expand to other regions. The new mode replaces standard search by adding an AI Mode tab directly into the Google interface.
Key Features of AI Mode
- Deep Search: Ability to generate expert-level reports with deep analysis and links in minutes
- Search Live: Use of the camera to get real-time information, including explanations of what you see
- Multimodality: Combination of text, images, and video for accurate and comprehensive answers
- Conversational Search: Ability to chat with AI and ask follow-up questions
- Shopping: Product search with personalized recommendations and virtual try-on
Agentic Capabilities: Google Does the Work for You
With the Project Mariner initiative, AI Mode can perform tasks on behalf of the user such as booking tickets, finding restaurants, or making appointments.
For example, just say: “Find two cheap tickets to the match on Saturday,” and AI Mode will find options, compare prices, and suggest where to purchase them.
Personal Context and Gmail Integration
AI Mode analyzes previous search history and, if the user agrees, connects data from Gmail. This enables it to suggest restaurants based on past reservations or events near your hotel during a trip.
Custom Charts: Data Visualization on Demand
For complex analytical tasks, AI Mode creates clear charts and graphs, including team comparisons or financial metrics. Visual elements are generated for each specific query.
Why It Matters
Since the launch of AI Overviews last year, Google has seen an increase in user activity: the number of complex queries rose by 10% in the U.S. and India.
This shows that users are satisfied with the results and are increasingly turning to search for more detailed tasks.
When and Where AI Mode Is Available
AI Mode is already live in the U.S. and will expand over the coming weeks. Early users can test new features via Labs.
Many of these features are expected to become part of Google’s core search in the future.
