Denmark Fines Streamer for Promoting Illegal Operator on Twitch
Spillemyndigheden (the Danish Gambling Authority) issued a fine to an unnamed Twitch streamer for repeatedly promoting operators not licensed to operate in Denmark.
What Happened
The streamer used Twitch to promote games from operators that had not obtained a Danish license. The violations were recorded back in 2023. After an investigation, the case materials were handed over to the police.
As a result, the streamer admitted guilt and accepted a fine of DKK 10,000 (about $1,500). The fine amount was recommended by Spillemyndigheden.
Repeat Offense
This is already the second case in which the Danish regulator has secured a penalty against a streamer for illegally distributing gambling content on Twitch.
What Is Prohibited on Twitch
Previously, Twitch allowed various types of gambling-related content. However, following audience criticism, the platform changed its policy.
- Advertising operators without a license in a recognized jurisdiction is prohibited;
- Platforms such as Stake and Roobet are restricted;
- Content that violates the rules is forwarded to law enforcement.
The Role of Spillemyndigheden
The Danish authority actively monitors illegal activity in online gambling. It has the right to investigate and refer cases to the police.
