According to a recent report by Eilers & Krejcik Gaming, total U.S. consumer spending on gambling reached $172 billion in 2024 — an increase of 3.3% compared to 2023. The data includes only B2C segments, excluding social casinos, sweepstakes platforms, and skill-based games.

Spending Breakdown

Most of the spending went to traditional formats:

  • Casinos (commercial and tribal) — 56%
  • Retail lottery — 22%
  • Online gambling — 15%
  • Other formats (including charitable gambling and horse racing) — 7%

Online Segment: Rapid Growth

Online sectors continue steady growth thanks to legalization in new states and increased user interest:

  • Online betting grew by 34%, with launches in North Carolina and Vermont
  • Online casinos and poker — up 29%
  • Online lottery increased by 26% but still accounts for only 1% of total spending
