Brazil approves list of sports for betting

In Brazil, the Ministry of Sports published Portaria No. 27 of April 1, 2026, in the Official Gazette on April 7, defining the final list of sports and organizations on whose events operators are allowed to offer fixed-odds betting.

New betting framework

The document came into force on the day of publication and repeals the previous Portarias MESP No. 125/2024 and No. 36/2025.

Responsible authority

The list is approved by the Brazilian Ministry of Sports and applies to betting operators.

Approved sports categories

The list includes disciplines recognized by international sports bodies as well as commercially popular sports.

Main categories

  • sports recognized by the IOC;
  • disciplines under the IPC;
  • sports under the ICSD;
  • Pan American Games program;
  • sports for athletes with disabilities.

Additional disciplines

  • equestrian sports, including vaquejada and rodeo;
  • MMA;
  • jiu-jitsu;
  • motorsport;
  • beach tennis;
  • footvolley;
  • American football.

Esports betting

Esports are also included in the list under specific conditions.

Requirements for tournaments

Betting is allowed with a valid license or authorization from the developer or rights holder.

Restrictions for rights holders

Developers cannot limit betting on their tournaments to a single operator.

Operator restrictions

The document sets bans on certain categories of events.

Prohibited events

  • youth categories;
  • non-professional competitions;
  • events involving exclusively minors.

List updates

The Ministry of Sports retains the right to update the list as new disciplines are recognized.
