Netflix Announces Casino Series “Dealer”

The creator and producer of the upcoming crime thriller will be Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of “Squid Game,” the most popular series in Netflix history.

Production of the Series “Dealer”

The project will be directed by Choi Young-hwan, for whom the series will mark his directorial debut. He previously worked as a cinematographer on South Korean films such as “Memoir of a Murderer” (2017), “Escape from Mogadishu” (2021), as well as entries in the “Veteran” film series.

The series is currently in production. Details regarding the number of episodes and the release date have not yet been disclosed.

Cast of the Project

The series stars Korean actors Jung So-min, Ryu Seung-bum, Lee Soo-hyuk, and Ryu Kyung-soo. The casting was officially confirmed by Netflix representatives.

Roles and Characters

Jung So-min plays casino dealer Jung Geon-hwa, an experienced croupier who loses money intended for her wedding and new home as a result of fraud.

Ryu Seung-bum portrays Hwang Chi-soo, a former gambling addict who joins the main character’s dangerous plan.

Lee Soo-hyuk appears as player Jo Jun, who influences the course of the game through skill and composure, while Ryu Kyung-soo plays Choi Woo-seung, a detective and Jung Geon-hwa’s boyfriend.

Plot and Theme of the Series

The story centers on a casino dealer who, after losing funds meant for her wedding and new home, decides to activate her hidden abilities and enter a risky game tied to gambling.

The project is another Netflix series focused on gambling-related themes. Earlier, the platform released the feature-length drama “The Ballad of a Small Player” starring Colin Farrell.
