Argentina Introduces Biometric Player Identification

In Argentina, the Buenos Aires Province regulator (IPLyC)
required
all seven licensed iGaming operators to implement biometric player identification within 60 days.
Decision by Buenos Aires Province Authorities
The mandatory implementation of biometric identification was announced by the Buenos Aires Province
Government Minister Carlos Bianco during an official press conference.
The new requirements apply to all authorized online gambling websites operating within the province.
Implementation Timeline
Licensed operators must deploy biometric identification and identity verification systems within 60 days.
Purpose of Biometric Identification
The primary goal of this initiative is the prevention of underage access to online gambling platforms.
According to the minister, minors often gain access to betting sites using accounts belonging to parents or other adults.
Login Requirements
Access to licensed online gambling websites must be carried out using biometric data and proof of life verification.
This measure ensures that only adult users can access gambling services.
Combating Gambling Addiction
The measure is part of the provincial government’s policy to combat gambling addiction and protect mental health.
Carlos Bianco noted that interministerial efforts to prevent gambling problems have been ongoing for an extended period.
Control of Illegal Gambling
The minister reported that around 300 complaints have recently been filed with prosecutors regarding illegal betting websites.
In addition, more than 120 inspections were conducted, resulting in 50 searches and the dismantling of illegal gambling operations.
Permitted Domain Zones
Authorities emphasized that only websites with the .bet.ar domain are considered legal.
Websites operating under .com and .net domains are considered illegal in the province.
